Fighter Maintenance & Armament Bay (Deck 11)
Created by Captain Natira Dareese on Tue Sep 22nd, 2026 @ 11:39pm
The maintenance and armament bay opens directly off Fighter Bay Three through a wide double doorway, its floor space divided into three shallow maintenance pits sunk about half a meter below the surrounding deck, each large enough to accommodate a single Valkyrie fighter with room for technicians to move freely around the undercarriage. Articulated overhead service arms, folded against the ceiling on telescoping tracks, can be swung down to hold diagnostic panels or lighting rigs directly over an open engine access panel; several hang unused at present, their cabling coiled neatly against brackets bolted to the overhead.
Along the starboard wall, a long workbench of scored grey composite runs the length of the compartment, cluttered with disassembled thruster components, isolinear test rigs, and squat toolboxes secured to the surface by magnetic strips. Above the bench, labeled bins holding spare hull plating, sensor modules, and coolant lines are stacked in open-faced shelving racks that rise nearly to the overhead. The portside wall is given over entirely to armament handling: a row of vertical racks holding compact micro-torpedo casings and phaser emitter cartridges, each secured behind a mesh safety gate, and a low, wheeled loading cart with a padded cradle sized to match the underside hardpoints of a Valkyrie fighter.
The compartment's lighting is harsher and more clinical than the fighter bay beyond, bright white panels set flush into the overhead casting minimal shadow across the work pits. The air smells strongly of machine lubricant, ozone, and the faint acrid note of recent welding, and the ambient sound is a shifting mixture of pneumatic tool bursts, the click of ratchets, and the occasional high whine of a diagnostic scanner sweeping across an open access panel.
