Transphasic Torpedo Secure Magazine (Deck 12)

The secure magazine is a small, self-contained vault set apart from the main torpedo storage by a short connecting corridor sealed at both ends with independent blast doors. The outer door is unremarkable at first glance, flush grey metal indistinguishable from surrounding bulkheads, but a closer look reveals a reinforced frame nearly twice the thickness of a standard hatch and a status light that stays a steady red until both required authorizations have been entered. Inside, the vault itself is compact, holding only a dozen transphasic casings arranged upright in individual cylindrical containment sleeves along the rear wall, each sleeve ringed with a faint blue-white glow from the low-level stasis field maintaining the warhead's stability. The containment sleeves are spaced with unusual generosity compared to the tight racking of the main magazine, each isolated within its own alcove of reinforced composite. A narrow console stands just inside the door, its surface dominated by twin biometric scanner plates, side by side, requiring simultaneous handprint and retinal confirmation from two separate command-level authorizations before the vault's internal restraints will release. The lighting inside is dim and cool, a pale blue-white wash that matches the glow of the containment sleeves rather than the warmer white of the corridor outside, and the air carries a faint metallic, almost ionized taste. A soft, continuous tone, barely audible, emanates from the stasis field generators recessed into the deck beneath each sleeve, and the whole compartment carries an unusually still, deliberate quality compared to the constant low-level activity of the main magazine just beyond the connecting corridor.
