Broadside Torpedo Launchers (Port & Starboard) (Deck 12)

The broadside launcher compartments sit near the outer hull on both the port and starboard sides of Deck 12, mirror images of one another separated by the width of the ship's midsection. Each compartment is a long, narrow space running parallel to the hull, angled slightly outward so that its bank of launcher tubes faces obliquely forward and to the side rather than straight out. Four launcher breeches line the outer wall of each compartment, evenly spaced and identical in construction to the general-purpose tubes found in the forward launcher bay, their dark grey housings ringed with the same banded reinforcement collars and topped with simple green-amber status tiles. A narrow service corridor runs along the inboard side of each compartment, just wide enough for a single technician to walk the length of the tube bank, with small fold-down inspection platforms at each breech allowing access to the loading mechanism without fully entering the confined space behind the tubes. Overhead, a single loading rail feeds each bank from a connecting spur off the main magazine's transport network, terminating at a shared distribution junction partway down the corridor where an articulated arm can redirect an incoming torpedo to whichever tube requires reloading. The hull-side wall curves gently to follow the ship's outer contour, its surface a plain reinforced grey broken only by the four tube apertures and their surrounding blast-resistant collars. Lighting in both compartments is dim compared to the main magazine, a string of low-intensity strip lights running along the service corridor's overhead, leaving the space behind the tube breeches in deeper shadow. The air carries the same machine-oil and ozone character common to the ship's other weapons spaces, and a persistent structural hum from the adjacent hull plating is more noticeable here than in more central compartments, occasionally accompanied by a faint metallic ping as the outer hull flexes slightly under thermal stress.
