Broadside Torpedo Magazine (Deck 12)

The broadside magazine is a modest compartment centered between the port and starboard launcher corridors, considerably smaller than the ship's main forward magazine and holding only enough ordnance to keep both broadside batteries supplied during sustained engagement. Casings are stored in two facing rack walls running the width of the compartment, each rack holding a mix of standard photon torpedoes secured behind simple spring-loaded restraint bars, with a smaller dedicated sub-rack near the center reserved for a handful of quantum variants, distinguished by their blue-edged status tiles.
A pair of transport rails split from a central distribution point at the compartment's midpoint, one running to port and one to starboard, each carrying a low flatbed sled that ferries selected casings out toward the respective launcher corridor. The distribution point itself is marked by a raised control pedestal, its surface a simple LCARS interface allowing a single loading technician to route inventory to either side without needing to physically walk the ordnance between compartments. Overhead, exposed conduit clusters run along the centerline, thinner than those found in the main magazine, reflecting the smaller power and control demands of this secondary storage space.
The compartment's lighting is plain and even, a row of recessed panels running the length of the centerline aisle, and the deck is the same heavy diamond-plate composite found throughout the ship's weapons spaces. The air carries a faint machine-oil smell, and the compartment is generally quiet apart from the intermittent whir of a transport sled and the soft mechanical click of a restraint bar releasing during a loading cycle.
