QSD Control Room (Deck 13)

The QSD control room is a compact, amphitheater-style compartment with two tiers of workstations descending toward a broad forward viewport of thick transparent aluminum that looks directly into the adjoining field emitter array chamber. Through the viewport, the emitter array itself is visible as a ring of large, dish-shaped projectors mounted around a circular aperture, currently dark and inert, its housing finished in the same dull bronze-gold alloy used for the ship's other high-energy field generation hardware. The lower tier holds four primary LCARS consoles arranged in a shallow crescent, their sloped surfaces divided into a mix of standard blue-and-amber control tiles and a distinct cluster of violet-tinted displays unique to slipstream telemetry, tracking corridor geometry and field harmonic stability. A large horizontal display table dominates the center of the lower tier, its flat surface capable of projecting a three-dimensional graphical representation of a slipstream corridor when the drive is engaged, though it currently sits dark and unlit. The upper tier, reached by two shallow steps, holds a single elevated command chair facing the viewport, flanked by a secondary console dedicated to benamite crystal chamber diagnostics. The walls of the compartment are the same pale grey composite panel found throughout engineering spaces, though broken here by several inset display screens showing scrolling readouts of crystal resonance frequency and tunnel aperture stress tolerances. Overhead lighting is kept deliberately dim during standby, a cool blue-white wash that shifts to a brighter, more urgent white the moment the drive begins spinning up. The room is unusually quiet at rest, with only a faint electronic murmur from the idle consoles, though a distinct rising hum and a faint structural vibration through the deck plating mark the buildup to an actual slipstream transition.
