Ground Hover Footpad Systems - Aft (Deck 15)

Nearly identical in construction to its counterpart forward, this aft footpad bay is built around the stowed bulk of a second landing strut, positioned further back along the engineering hull to balance the ship's weight distribution during ground operations. The footpad housing itself is the same dull battleship-grey circular strut assembly, ribbed with vertical hydraulic cylinders and recessed into the deck and lower hull when retracted, secured by four heavy locking clamps spaced evenly around its circumference. A narrow inspection walkway rings the housing, marked with the same worn yellow traction strips found in the forward bay, though here the paint shows slightly less wear, suggesting this footpad sees marginally less frequent maintenance attention. Hydraulic feed lines run from the footpad's base to a set of pressure accumulator tanks mounted along the aft bulkhead, their analog gauge needles resting steady in the green band. The overhead is cluttered with the same low-hanging conduit and structural bracing seen in comparable compartments throughout this section of the hull, forcing a slightly stooped posture when moving along the walkway's aft end where a support strut drops particularly low. A compact LCARS status panel beside the entrance mirrors the standard footpad readouts, tracking stowed/deployed position, hydraulic pressure, and clamp engagement. Lighting is limited to two utility fixtures casting stark white illumination across the footpad's grey housing, leaving pronounced shadow in the recesses between the hydraulic cylinders. The bay smells faintly of hydraulic fluid, and the ambient quiet is broken only by the occasional distant hum of adjacent machinery spaces bleeding through the bulkheads, the footpad itself dormant and motionless in its housing awaiting the rare call to plant the ship firmly on solid ground.
