Warp Core - Mid Assembly (Deck 16)

Created by Captain Natira Dareese on Wed Sep 23rd, 2026 @ 12:26am

The mid-level gallery encircles the warp core at the midpoint of its vertical run, a wider and busier space than the quiet upper level, reflecting its role as the primary working level for day-to-day core maintenance. The core segment visible here is thicker than at the upper level, its dark plating banded with the same pale blue-white power transfer conduits, now joined by a dense array of secondary feed lines and structural bracing that anchor the core against lateral stress. A full ring of catwalk surrounds the core at this level, wider than the upper gallery's narrow walkway and fitted with two full workstations spaced evenly around its circumference. Each workstation consists of a fold-down LCARS console and a small parts locker, allowing technicians to conduct extended diagnostic or repair work without needing to return to a central hub. Thick support pylons rise from the deck at intervals around the ring, anchoring the outer gallery structure to the surrounding hull framework, and between them the core's containment field generators are visible as a row of squat, humming units clamped directly to the core's outer housing, each pulsing with a faint violet shimmer when the containment field is at nominal strength. The deck here is heavier gauge grating than found elsewhere on the ship, rated for the additional foot traffic and equipment this level regularly sees, and a small parts staging area near the main access hatch holds a rack of spare containment field coils and diagnostic tools. Lighting is brighter than the upper level, a mix of the core's own ambient glow and dedicated white work lighting angled to eliminate shadow across the catwalk surface. The ambient hum here is markedly stronger than above, a deep, felt vibration accompanied by the periodic soft chime of automated diagnostic routines cycling through the containment field generators, the whole level thrumming with the unmistakable presence of the ship's primary power source close at hand.
