Emergency Life Support - Engineering Section (Deck 18)

This backup life support station occupies a compact compartment near the aft end of the industrial fabrication deck, its equipment considerably more compact than the primary atmospheric processing hub found in the saucer section, sized to cover the engineering hull's compartments alone should the main system fail or be damaged. A pair of scrubber units, smaller cousins to the large cylindrical housings found in the primary hub, stand against the rear wall, their surfaces marked with standby status lights currently glowing a dim, patient amber, held in reserve rather than actively cycling. A dedicated LCARS control station is mounted beside the scrubber units, its display divided between current standby diagnostics and a large, clearly labeled activation control sealed beneath a hinged safety cover, ready for immediate manual engagement should ship-wide systems call for it. Overhead, a network of emergency distribution ducting, painted with a distinct red identification stripe to distinguish it from primary system ductwork, branches out toward the surrounding compartments, ready to carry processed air the moment the backup system comes online. The compartment's walls are plain grey composite, and the floor is standard non-slip decking, with nothing to distinguish the space visually beyond the utilitarian banks of standby equipment and the red-striped ducting overhead. Lighting is simple and even, and the air, when the system sits idle as it does the vast majority of the time, carries no particular scent beyond the ordinary recycled ship's air, the equipment silent but for an occasional faint electronic tick from the standby monitoring circuits, patiently waiting in reserve against the day it might be needed.
