RCS Thruster Access (Deck 7)

At the aft port and starboard extremes of the deck, mirrored compartments provide direct maintenance access to the saucer section's reaction control system thruster quads. Each is a narrow, wedge-shaped space that follows the inward curve of the outer hull, low enough near the hull side that a tall crewmember has to duck beneath a cluster of structural ribs.
The outer bulkhead here is thicker than in surrounding compartments, with a large circular inspection hatch set into it at chest height - beyond the hatch, when open, sits the back of a thruster quad housing, a dense cluster of nozzle assemblies and actuator hardware bolted directly to the hull structure. Thick, color-coded EPS conduit bundles run down from the ceiling and disband into the thruster control assembly beside the hatch, each conduit run labeled with a small embossed tag.
Yellow and black hazard striping is painted across the deck plating directly beneath the inspection hatch, and a placard beside it warns of residual thermal and propellant hazards after recent thruster firings. The walls are unfinished grey composite over bare structural frame in places, without the smoother paneling used in crew-facing compartments, and a single diagnostic panel beside the hatch reports thruster quad status and firing history.
The compartment is cold compared to the rest of the deck, the hull plating here holding the chill of space more than interior sections do, and there's a faint metallic smell from the exposed structural hardware. When the maneuvering thrusters fire, a sharp, brief mechanical thud can be felt through the deck and hull plating alike, distinct from the steadier hum of the ship's main systems elsewhere.
