Waste Water Treatment & Recycling (Deck 8)

This compartment has a distinctly damp, industrial character absent from most of the ship's interior. A row of tall cylindrical reclamation tanks lines the port bulkhead, each faced with a narrow vertical sight-gauge showing fluid level through banded stages of a multi-part filtration process, the liquid inside shifting from a cloudy grey at the intake end to perfectly clear by the final tank. Overhead and along the floor, a dense network of piping in several different diameters crosses the room, color-banded at intervals to distinguish intake, in-process, and reclaimed potable lines. A soft, steady trickling sound is audible throughout the space, occasionally rising to a brief rush when a treatment cycle advances fluid from one tank to the next. A control station near the entrance monitors flow rates, filtration efficiency, and contaminant levels across the system, its display in the ship's standard LCARS style but skewed toward utilitarian blues and greens rather than the warmer tones used in crew-facing spaces. Beside it, a small parts locker holds spare filtration membranes and seals for routine maintenance. The floor is a textured, non-slip composite with a slight downward slope toward drainage grates near each tank, and the walls are a plain, slightly discolored grey from years of ambient humidity. The air is noticeably more humid than the corridor outside and carries a faint, clean mineral smell rather than anything unpleasant - the system does its job well enough that the room smells more like a spring than a sewage plant.
